Privacy policy

Searching the map, looking up a station, and planning a route all work with no personal information at all. The only optional step that stores anything is setting up a car under “My car”.

Setting up a car (“My car”) is entirely optional and never requires your vehicle registration number. You type in the make, model, engine size, fuel type and, optionally, your own known MPG. This is stored in our database with a randomly generated ID — not linked to your name, IP address, or anything else about you.

That ID is saved only in your own browser's local storage. We have no way to look up your car unless your browser sends us that exact ID, which it does automatically when you use features that need it (like showing cost-per-mile at a station). Clearing your browser's site data removes your end of that link permanently.

Vehicle records are automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after creation, whether or not you've been back to the site. If you want yours deleted sooner, contact us (below) with the vehicle ID from your browser's local storage and we'll delete it by hand.

If a registration-based lookup is added in future, the registration itself is never stored — only a salted one-way hash of it, per the same short retention period, and a no-registration path (as described above) will always remain available as an alternative.

Every public page and API route on this site is rate-limited to stop abuse and keep the free government data sources we rely on available for everyone. To do this fairly, we take your IP address, combine it with a private salt, and store only the resulting one-way hash — never your actual IP address. This hash cannot be reversed back into an IP address. These records are automatically deleted after 24 hours.

We use a handful of local storage entries that are strictly necessary for specific features you explicitly turn on — your saved car, your fuel grade preference, a saved commute route, and which price-drop alerts you've subscribed to. None of these is used for tracking or advertising, and none requires your consent under UK law because each is essential to the feature you asked for. We do not currently run any analytics or advertising cookies. If we add either in future, they will only run after you actively accept them via the cookie banner — never before, and you can withdraw that choice at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain.

If advertising is switched on in future, it will use Google AdSense, which — only once you've consented — may set its own cookies to show relevant ads. You can control ad personalisation separately at adssettings.google.com.

Only the infrastructure providers that make the site work at all:

• Supabase (database hosting, London region) — stores the vehicle and rate-limit records described above.
• Hostinger (site hosting) — runs the site and its server logs, in the ordinary way any web host does.
• OpenFreeMap — your browser requests map tiles directly from their servers when you view the map, the same way it would for any embedded map. We don't control what they log; see their own policy for details.

We never sell data, and we never share it with data brokers or advertisers beyond the consent-gated AdSense integration described above.

UK prices and vehicle data come from official UK Government sources and contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. International prices come from each country’s own official public sources, used under their respective licences.

Station locations, maps and road routes © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. Map tiles by OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles. Road routes on the route planner are calculated by the FOSSGIS OSRM routing service. Spotted a mistake on the map? Fix the map.

Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how it's used. Since we don't hold your name or email against any record, the fastest way for us to act on this is if you can give us the vehicle ID from your own browser's local storage — email us and we'll act on it directly.
