About Petrol Price Map

In 2023 the UK Competition and Markets Authority found that competition at the pump wasn't working the way it should — retail margins had drifted well above their long-run average, and drivers had no easy way to see it.

Petrol Price Map is an independent site built on that open data, with one goal: not just to show you prices, but to help you decide what to actually do with them.

What makes this different

• We tell you when a detour isn't worth it. A cheaper station a few miles away isn't automatically a good idea once you account for the extra fuel to get there — most sites never do this maths. When it's not worth it, we say so prominently, not quietly.
• We work in cost per mile and cost to fill, not just pence per litre. Nobody actually buys litres — they buy journeys.
• We never invent a number. Stale means we say stale. Unknown means we say unknown. If a data source is genuinely unavailable, the site says so rather than guessing.
